Destination Spotlight: Moorea

Writer: Stacey MaplesStacey Maples

Moorea is a smaller island off the coast of Tahiti. Its a butterfly shaped island with a single road that encircles the island. We were last there in 2015 but I have to say we are still talking about the experience on a weekly basis.

We stayed at the Intercontinental primarily using IHG reward points. If you aren't already a member of the IHG reward system, I'm not sure what you are waiting for. Here's a link

We were lucky enough to upgrade to an overwater bungalow. A picture (or in this case a few videos are) is worth a thousand words so:

And the "fish show" just outside on the deck was AMAZING:

Now really, I'd have been happy with only those things, but that wasn't all Moorea has to offer. The food is basically very island inspired French food with tons of buttery sauces and delectable desserts. Again, that isn't all you get though. We loved several places, but it was amazing at Chez Roger where classical music played in the background while reef sharks and sting rays seemed to perform a water ballet just below the restaurant's deck.

Each day we would walk about a mile to another hotel and rent kayaks where we would row over to an uninhabited island (no worries, we weren't experienced kayakers and it was easily done). Practically tame sting rays there would "beg" for attention and the snorkeling was the best we've ever experienced.

Also we had the chance to go out on the boat with Dr. Poole who is a marine biologist working there with humpback whales. This was an amazing day since we saw spinner dolphins and SEVERAL large humpback whales. We even got to swim with one:

We have some other tips about Moorea, but so far, this one tops our favorite place in the ENTIRE world. Think its out of your reach? You should think again......

If you want to have a trip of a lifetime, let's talk about how to make it happen for you!
